Kiseki is a small self-catered, self-directed residency with space for only three residents at a time. We therefore ask applicants to complete a short application explaining their creative practice and what they hope to achieve during their month in Japan.

Please bear in mind that no matter how well-travelled you are, this month-long residency will inevitably lie somewhat outside your comfort zone, both in terms of your workflow and your lifestyle. If sleeping and sitting on the floor is challenging, or if Japanese food or quiet social etiquette are not your thing, the Kiseki Writing Retreat may not be right for you.

Deadline for applications:
1 December 2026 for the May residency
1 June 2027 for the November residency

We will email you by 1 January 2027 to let you know whether your application has been accepted for the May 2027 residency and by 1 July 2027 if your application is successful for the November 2027 residency.

Once accepted, you will be asked to pay a 20% deposit (£320) to secure your residency place and sign a tenancy agreement. The balance of £1280 for the tenancy will be due 30 days before the start date of your residency.
